A six vehicle chain reaction car accident on the 91 Freeway near Corona has impacted traffic in the area this morning. It is not immediately clear if there are serious injuries associated with the accident, however an LA County Sheriff motorcycle officer is on the scene and helping those involved. These accidents often result in serious injuries. After more than 40 years of experience in these cases, I can tell you that the number of distracted driver related incidents has rapidly increased over the past several years. People are checking their cell phone for a moment, texting, emailing or simply putting on a different song, when suddenly they are involved in an accident. You only have to look away for a moment, and that moment can change your life forever. During this holiday season we invite area drivers to set aside their cell phones once you get behind the wheel.
Late Monday night a car accident in Brea overturns two vehicles. The accident occurred at 6500 Carbon Canyon Road when the two vehicles collided. One person remained trapped in their car and the Fire Department had to be called in order to extricate them from the vehicle. Two individuals involved in the accident were transported to a local area hospital with complaints of injuries. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the accident. Accidents like this are a firm reminder of why it is important to always wear a safety-belt when inside of a moving vehicle. Without the protection of a safety belt, vehicle occupants can be thrown from overturned vehicles and sustain serious injuries. Furthermore, many people that are involved in car accidents that fail to wear safety-belts may strike their face and body with the interiors of the vehicles from head on crashes. Safety-belts prevent these types of injuries. However, even
5 people were injured in an HOV lane crash at the intersection of I-5 and I-405 in Irvine on Sunday evening. The crash involved two pickup trucks, and both trucks suffered major damage. 2 of the victims were trapped in their truck for 30 minutes following the accident. Firefighters on the scene had to cut the top off of the pickup truck to get to the injured victims inside. The driver and his wife were taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with serious injuries. The other pickup truck contained a family of 5, 3 of whom were transported to Hoag Hospital in Irvine with seemingly minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but the vehicles were heading north in the HOV lane in the area of the I-5 and I-405 in Irvine at the time of the accident. A multiple car accident in Fountain Valley that occurred on the 405 freeway left multiple parties involved with injuries. The accident occurred last Thursday evening on the northbound 405 freeway near the Brookhurst exit. Approximately six vehicles were involved, and one of the vehicles involved even rolled over. The size of the accident caused the northbound 405 to close almost all the lanes, and congested traffic severely for the rest of the night. Multiple people injured from the accident were transported to local area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. In a multi-party accident the claims process is not as simple as a car accident involving two just two parties. In a two party car accident, it will be much easier to determine the at-fault party, and respective liabilities between the parties involved. In a multi-party accident with many injured parties, and many possible parties at fault (or comparatively negligent
An Anaheim Fire official has plead guilty to causing a DUI crash with injuries. In October 2014, the fire official caused an accident while under the influence that caused injuries to 4 Murrieta cheerleaders. The injuries ranged from moderate to severe including 2 fractured vertebrae in the neck. The pickup truck driven by the official drove into the back of the Chrysler containing the 4 cheerleaders while it was waiting to turn left. The guilt plea in the criminal DUI case clears the way for a civil suit to proceed. In DUI accident cases, it is usually beneficial to wait for the completion of the criminal DUI trial before proceeding with the civil case to recover financial damages for the injuries caused by the accident. This may seem odd to some family members, however, the guilty pleas and evidence presented at the DUI trial become crucial evidence in the civil
Most car accidents present a clear case of liability, with one party and/or their insurance accepting fault in the accident. However, sometimes there is contested liability in car accidents, in other words, a disputed liability as to who caused the accident. A rear end accident is typically clear liability, with the party in back almost always at fault. However, in certain accidents such as side-swipe accidents, or t-bone type collisions, the parties can dispute who is at fault. A recent case that I worked on involved the latter, and was a t-bone accident in which our client was making a left handed turn on a dedicated left turn lane with a green arrow. The other party was proceeding straight in the opposite direction, and both parties collided head on. Both parties were adamant that they had a green light and the right of way. Our client was adamant she had a green
The first thing most people do after a serious motor-vehicle accident is to get medical attention and treatment for their injuries. After they are involved in an accident and start to get medical bills and repair bills for their vehicle, they turn to the at-fault party’s insurance company, or even their own insurance company, to make a claim for damages. Additionally, if they have under-insured or uninsured motorist coverage, their own insurance may compensate them for their bodily injury as well. However, most people have the incorrect assumption that these insurance companies will help them during the claims process. Most people are unaware that the insurance company’s primary objective is to pay the minimal amount possible on these claims! It is the insurance company’s primary objective to maximize profits, and they can only do this by paying the lowest settlement amount for their claims. I have routinely seen insurance adjusters
Lanes in the northbound I-5 freeway were closed due to a multi-vehicle roll-over car accident, leaving one vehicle on its top in Lake Forest near the Bake exit. The accident occurred late last week, and involved at least three vehicles, including a Jeep that had flipped and rolled over blocking lanes of traffic. Injuries were reported as a result of the accident, but it is not immediately clear if the injured parties have been transported to local area hospitals for evaluation and treatment. It is recommended to seek immediate attention following an accident in order to get proper medical evaluation, treatment, and documentation for your injuries. Even if you feel it is just “bumps and bruises,” it is important to be checked over by your physician within 24 hours of any accident. Many injuries – especially to joints and damage to vertebrae and discs – can take several weeks or months
Why should anyone involved in a car or vehicle crash seek immediate medical care after an accident? It is quite natural for most people to begin to internally reassure themselves in the aftermath of an accident that they are “ok”, that they are not injured. It is not uncommon for injury victims to decline transportation to the hospital after an accident. “It’s just bumps and bruises,” they tell themselves. “I’ll be ok.” That may be so, but at least visit an urgent care or see your primary physician within 24 hours of accident. The next natural instinct is to reassure family, friends, co-workers and others that one is “ok” after an accident. This is not in your interest, and after more than 40 years of experience working with injury victims I can tell you to immediately seek medical care or evaluation after an accident of any impact whatsoever.
