A 6-year-old boy was seriously injured in a car accident in California, and reports now indicate that he passed away as a result of his injuries. The two drivers in the accident–one of whom was the boy’s uncle–have now been tested to see if they were under the influence at the time of the crash.
The accident happened at a quarter to one in the afternoon. It was in Santa Ana, at the intersection where West Saint Andrew Place and South Bristol Street come together. The car that the boy was riding in was moving through the intersection when it was T-boned by a vehicle coming down the other road.
The Santa Ana Police Department said that the boy, on the passenger side of the BMW, was most directly exposed to the impact. He was rushed to the hospital, in critical condition, and he went into surgery. Unfortunately, he died before the surgery could be completed.
The police also said that the other vehicle, and not the BMW with the boy in it, technically had the right of way. The uncle apparently did not yield as he was supposed to, leading to the crash. However, the police suspected that the driver of that second vehicle was drunk, and so they put him in jail as a result.
Though the other driver didn’t need to go to the hospital, the uncle was taken over to Orange County Global Medical Center. The police said they thought he may have been under the influence, as well.
If you’ve lost a loved one because of another driver’s mistake, you may be able to seek compensation.
