A multiple vehicle accident involving several cars and two motorcycles on the 91 Freeway near Anaheim tonight has brought traffic to a standstill. Five vehicles and two motorcycles collided sending one of the bikers across the pavement. The report of injuries is sketchy at the present time, however accidents involving cars and motorcycles usually lead to serious injuries.
The forces involved in these accidents combined with the exposed nature of motorcycle riders can result in severe injuries including head trauma, broken bones and in some cases wrongful death. The flow of traffic on local freeways and the I-5 during rush hour requires extra vigilance on the part of car and truck drivers. Motorcyclists are legally permitted to lane-split in California when speeds drop, however they should not exceed the flow of traffic by more than 10 mph.
