Family Forced to Stab Former Police Dog Who Attacked and Mauled a Riverside Man

A local family was forced to stab a former police dog who attacked and mauled a Riverside man recently.  The 20 year old man felt sorry for the dog and offered it a bowl of water.  The dog put its paws on the mans chest, then took a bite out of his biceps.  What followed was a vicious attack resulting in additional dog bites to his left leg and ankle.  The german shepherd then dragged the man into the street to continue the attack.

The family of the man tried punching and kicking the former police dog, but the animal would not release his victim.  Eventually they were forced to confront the dog with steak knives in order to stop the attack and help the man.  The man was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.  The injured dog was taken by county animal control authorities for treatment and quarantine.  The animal has since been euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.

The former police dog must have respected the uniform of responding officers as they reported that the animal showed them no hostility once they arrived on scene.  The dog had been adopted by an officer, though not a member of the Long Beach department the dog had served.  In this case the owner of the dog will be responsible for the actions of the former police dog, and can be held financially accountable for the tearing wounds and serious injuries resulting in extensive medical treatment.  My name is Rivers Morrell, and after 40 years of experience in these cases I can tell you the victim will likely need extensive medical care, physical therapy and plastic surgery in order to recover from these injuries.  The bite out of his biceps and the bites on his leg and ankle will result in serious scarring.

This is a tragic story which resulted in serious injury to the victim and the euthanization of a former police dog who attacked and mauled a Riverside man.  If you, a child or a loved one are attacked by a dog resulting in dog bite injuries I invite you to call for a free consultation at (949)305-1400.  We will protect your legal interests and hold the dog owner responsible and financially accountable.
