Pedestrians hit by Cars in Anaheim

Anaheim is the biggest city in Orange County, and so it is no surprise that there are so many pedestrians hit by cars in Anaheim each year.  The city of Anaheim has high pedestrian traffic among its many attractions such as Disneyland, the downtown Disney area, and other pedestrian friendly tourist attractions which draw many pedestrians walking nearby major street intersections. As a driver, one must be very careful to make sure there are no pedestrians crossing intersections before going through. The downtown Disneyland areas have a vibrant restaurant and bar scene, so there are always many pedestrians to be cautious of. As a pedestrian, one must likewise also be careful of automobile drivers that are not aware of their surroundings. As a pedestrian one must be more cautious, as any collision with a vehicle can lead to catastrophic injury. Vehicle collisions involving pedestrians can often result in very serious

Pickup Truck in Anaheim Freeway Overturns Causing Accident

Serious confusion and defensive driving may have avoided serious injuries as a pickup truck travelling on the northbound I-5 Anaheim freeway overturns near the Harbor Boulevard exit. The pickup truck was towing a trailer which swayed and caused him to lose control and flip his vehicle. The trailer also overturned and much of the unsecured load spilled out onto the freeway as well. Three lanes of the freeway were closed while worker crews scrambled to clean debris off the freeway and tow the truck. Luckily, no other accidents were caused by the debris scattered on the freeway. If you are in a situation such as the one above, where debris from a vehicle in front of you causes you to become involved in an accident, you may have a claim against the driver towing the load. If they are driving negligently, or have negligently secured items making it a

Anaheim Bicyclist was Critically Injured in Car Accident

An Anaheim bicyclist was critically injured in a car accident last week in the 900 block of South Beach Boulevard.  There is no crosswalk or traffic control device in that location.  The bicyclist was struck by a Nissan Murano, whose driver stopped and remained at the scene.  The injured bicyclist was removed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Our thoughts remain with the victim of the accident and their family.  Too many accidents involving bicyclists have happened recently, and as Spring approaches the number of bicyclists will only increase. The momentum of a heavy vehicle is no match for a person on a bike.  Bicycle accidents often result in serious injuries involving head trauma, broken bones and internal injuries.  Unfortunately, many of these accidents are the result of a hit and run driver, leaving the injury victim wondering how to recover for the financial expenses and losses they’ve been forced

How Common is Nursing Home Abuse in Anaheim?

The Anaheim area is home to many nursing home and skilled nursing facilities.  The 2010 Census reported that more than 40 Million Americans are over the age of 65, and that number continues to rise.  California has the largest population of senior citizens in the US, and that number is expected to reach 6.4 million by 2025.  California’s own Statewide Healthcare Planning and Development noted in a recent study that one-fifth of California’s nursing homes did not meet required staffing requirements.  The impact on patient load, under-staffing and nursing home abuse in Anaheim and throughout Orange County is evident. In 2006, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported that California’s 115,000 plus nursing home residents are placed in physical restraints twice as often as the national average.  What are some signs of nursing home abuse in Anaheim and throughout Southern California?  Bed sores or pressure sores (known as Decubitus ulcers)

Skateboarder Critically Injured in Anaheim Hit-and-Run Saturday Night

We are extremely saddened by the critical injury of a skateboarder Saturday evening in an Anaheim hit-and-run accident. After more than 40 years of injury and wrongful death experience and several cases involving skateboarders, I can tell you this is devastating for the family. Skateboarders often do not receive the respect they deserve as many people (including insurance adjusters) have their own opinion of the skateboarding lifestyle. I stand up for injured skateboarders, and their families, in skateboard injury and fatal skateboard accidents. A recent case is an excellent example. My client was riding his skateboard, and at the time of the accident was in the middle of the road on the double yellow line. He was struck and severely injured by a driver going the opposite way. The insurance company fought our case, saying the skateboarder shouldn’t have been there. Our argument was simple: The driver should not have crossed into the

Fall Resulting in Injury at an Anaheim Nursing Home or Assisted Care Facility

There is no excuse for a fall resulting in injury at an Anaheim nursing home or assisted care facility.  Recent statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) noted that the average number of falls in a nursing home across the US is 2 per bed per year.  This is an astonishing statistic, and speaks to the national and local issues of understaffing and lack of appropriate supervision and care being delivered at many Anaheim nursing home and assisted care facilities.  Patients who are being neglected may attempt to get out of bed to simply use the rest room, or to seek a glass of water.  When staffing levels are appropriate and the skill and certification of health care providers meets California’s rigid standards the incidence of injury drops substantially.  If your loved one was injured in a fall at a nursing home or assisted care facility you should

Pedestrian Fatally Struck While Crossing Anaheim Crosswalk

A pedestrian fatally struck and killed by a car early Monday morning was crossing a cross-walk near Disneyland in Anaheim. The pedestrian-automobile accident occurred on South Haster Street which is just south of Katella Avenue. The injured party was taken to a local area hospital with severe injuries, and unfortunately did not survive. Pedestrian accidents produce some of the most serious injuries. Pedestrians do not have the same level of protection that vehicle occupants enjoy with seat-belts and airbags. Pedestrians that are struck can suffer very serious injuries which can include broken bones, head trauma/injuries, and internal injuries such as ruptured organs. Due to the very serious nature of these types of accidents, if you are involved in a pedestrian automobile accident, it is highly recommended to go to the Emergency Room in order to get proper medical evaluation and treatment. After receiving treatment for your injuries, you may have
